Rob, calm down man, no need to get excited. No-one's suggesting that it's some kind of cosmic conspiracy.

Unlike the theories about "Dark Side" and "Wizard", I didn't see anywhere where anyone claimed that this was pre-meditated or that Echoes was composed with 2001 in mind. The only comments I saw on the sites were that it was pretty cool and that it worked, and I agree.

PG - I am pretty far from excited so I'll thank you to take your patronising tone elsewhere. So it's 'cool and it works' - doesn't negate what I said, it's still just coincidence and wishful thinking that makes it so.

And in answer to your earlier question, a Grateful Dead cover of Echoes would have been an unmitigated disaster.

Ouch...you hurt my heart..

Of course it;s a coincidence. Just enjoy it, or don't, for what it is, a great piece of music paired with a great piece of movie, nothing more, nothing less.

I like coffee and I like peanut butter, but I don't stir one into the other. Truth be told, both Echoes and 2001 hold special places in my heart - they both spoke deeply to me in my long-departed youth and resonate for me still. I prefer to keep them separate and undiluted. But each to their own of course. It's nearly 2 am (how did that happen?) so I'm getting out of your hair now. Goodnight, Mr Gel.

This gave me a little smile and laugh just when I needed it most! Dealing with miles of red tape with regards to University admins here...

That '66 TDIH helps too :)
